The Ballad of Robert and Clara

from Songs, Delayed by Cobbler

/

about

Robert Schumann was a composer and his wife Clara was too, as well as a virtuoso pianist who, at a time when most women were wives and mothers, travelled around Europe giving piano recitals. She was a dude, he went mad in an asylum. That's what this song is about. One of my kids is called Clara too. The other one is not called Robert.

lyrics

He sits and he sings about her
She thinks of him without her
Because she's 200 miles
200 days away
He's sung it too many times
200 times today

Clara!

Don't ever turn out the light
Turn out the light
On our love
Don't ever turn out the light
Turn out the light
On our love
We'd be forever in the dark
Forever in the dark, Clara
We'd be forever in the dark
Forever in the dark, Clara

Clara!
Clara!
Clara!
Clara!
